Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What is included in the adoption fee?

All our animals are fully vet worked prior to adoption. This means they are Microchipped, Desexed, Vaccinated, Flea and Worm Treated. All animals are Temperament Tested and Cat/Kittens are litter Trained. There are also Pound Fee’s accossicated with some pets that are (hopefully) able to be covering in the adoption fee or through the generosity of the public through pledges or donations.

Can I call you if I know of an animal that needs help?

We recommend reaching out to your local animal control (Rangers) or law enforcement agency to report suspected cruelty. As much as it saddens us we are unable to intervene, we can merely offer the animals a second chance once removed from that situation.

I’ve lost my pet, can you help?

We dont have a lost pet directory so the best course of action is to;

  • Call your local council and report your pet missing. If your local shelter has an animal matching your pets description or microchip details they will contact you.

  • Call all the local vets in your area. Often people will bring a found pet into the vets.

  • Door knock all your neighbours and ask them to be on the look-out for your pet; ask them to check their garages and sheds.

  • Most towns have a Facebook Page for Lost Pets. Do a quick search and scroll through to see if anyone has seen you missing family member.

Remember when you change addresses to update your pets details too on the Pet Registry.

What does my donation go towards?

Basically, if a foster animals requires no additional veterinary treatment, medications or surgeries, the adoption fee covers the majority of the cost of standard vet work (depending on the animal). However, costs increase the longer the animal is in care due to additional vaccines and parasite treatments being required (not to mention food, litter, enrichment items, bedding).

Overall, adoption fees don’t always cover our vet bills. This is why we hold regular fundraisers and campaigns for special needs fosters like Crash Bandicoot. Donations, such as yours go towards the on going care of an animal or towards the additional vet costs of animals that require beyond the normal care and procedures.

Can I surrender my animal to you?

Yes, in certain circumstances RADAR Inc may be able to take in surrendered animals but it depends on a number of aspects. We do charge a surrender fee but, in some circumstances, it may not be enforced as we will judge each case individually and help owners where we can.

Our resources are primarily for the rescue of animals in neglected situations or on Death Row in the pound. If we do not have room for your animal then you may have to take it to your local pound and surrender it there. Pound Staff work with many Rescue Groups and they do care about the animals that are dumped or surrendered there.

COSTS TO SURRENDER

As from April 2019  Surrender Fees are as follows;

Cats: $50 per adult cat or per litter

Dogs: $120 per adult dog or per litter

I found a stray animal what do I do?

It is wonderful that you are taking the time to help this lost soul. Unfortunately we are unable to take stray animals direct from the public.

You will need to take them to your local animal shelter (pound) and from there the animals owners are contacted (if possible) and they can be returned home or after the holding period the shelter will adopt out the animal or place with a rescue group from there.

What precautions can I take regarding my pet in the event of an emergency?

Great Question! We suggest having a disaster plan. The RSPCA website has some great information and a short video to help you prepare. https://kb.rspca.org.au/knowledge-base/what-preparations-should-i-make-for-my-pets-in-case-of-an-emergency/

I found injured wildlife, Can you help?

Unfortunately, no. We are not accredited to render assistance to our precious wildlife, you will have to take it to a local vet or contact WIRES directly on 1300 0 WIRES. They have specialised carers for our native animals.
